Smith College of Liberal Arts Hosts ‘2018 Humanities Week’

Under the theme “Humanities of Empathy and Emotion”
Sahmyook University’s Smith College of Liberal Arts (Dean Kim Yong-seong) has designated the period from the 2nd to the 10th as “Humanities Week” and will host a series of special lectures under the theme “Humanities of Empathy and Emotion.”
Humanities Week was 마련됐다 to enhance students’ humanities literacy and strengthen civic awareness and communication competencies. Based on the promotion of humanities literacy, it aims to cultivate honest well-rounded individuals, creative intellectuals, and practical servants grounded in the educational goals and ideal talent profile of “Sahmyook MVP.”
During this period, the Smith College of Liberal Arts will invite three renowned speakers to deliver special lectures at Janggeuncheong Hall and the Grand Auditorium on campus.
In the first special lecture held on the 2nd, Dean Kwon Yong-hyeok of the College of Humanities at the University of Ulsan delivered a lecture titled “The Future of Community,” moderated by Professor Noh Dong-wook. On the 4th, Director Lee Hyun-sik of the Korea Modern Literature Museum at the Incheon Foundation for Arts and Culture will give a lecture on the topic “Why Communicate and How to Empathize,” moderated by Professor Han Geum-yoon.
On the final day, the 10th, Superintendent Kim Wan-tae of the Korea Military Academy is scheduled to take the podium with a lecture on the topic “Understanding Security History Through the History of Our Music.”
Dean Kim Yong-seong of the Smith College of Liberal Arts said, “In the era of technological revolution, by cultivating the ability for empathy and emotional sensitivity, we expect this to become an opportunity for people to recognize the importance of building not only individual happiness but also a healthy community.”
