[NEWS] Selected as host university for 'Venture Startup Academy'

Sahmyook University was newly selected as a host university for the ‘Venture Startup Academy’, a software (SW) talent training program supervised by the Korean government’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups. It plans to intensively nurture 90 practical talents annually, including back-end SW developers and AI·big data analysis experts.

The ‘Venture Startup Academy’ is a policy program to nurture talent in the SW·content sectors. The goal is to cultivate critical talents who can be immediately put into the corporate field through project-based training courses.

Sahmyook University (the hosting university) will form a consortium with Dongduk Women’s University and the Korea Startup Forum to participate in this project. It will operate two courses, the AI·Big Data Analysis Expert Training Course and the Back-end SW Developer Training Course. It plans to select 90 trainees (50 from Sahmyook University and 40 from Dongduk Women’s University) within this month.

A total of 1,236.25 million won will be invested, including 1.125 billion won from government expenditures and 111.25 million won from self-responsive amounts.

Based on the recruitment demand of six venture cooperatives·organization member companies related to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, customized training courses and on-the-job training (OJT) programs are designed·operated through the discovery of demand companies (over 50% employment agreement). A scholarship of 2.5 million won per student is also provided.

In addition, △Unicorn Startup Link Program △Global Startup Festival △Industry-Academic Cooperation Projects such as Hackathon △Metaverse Job Fair and Employment Connection Support △Current Resume and Portfolio Page Production △Special Lectures by Senior Developers, etc., as well as promoting various practical talent development programs.

Choi, Seong-wook, a professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence, who oversees the project, said, “We will contribute to resolving the shortage of SW development manpower of companies by fostering creative SW convergence talents with practical skills.”
