Sahmyook Sarang Shop, a volunteer group formed by the wives of professors at Sahmyook University, donated 30 million won in scholarship funds to help international students. So far, the accumulated donations delivered to the university by Sahmyook Sarang Shop amount to 140 million won.

Sahmyook Sarang Shop conducts weekly activities to donate all the proceeds generated by selling items sponsored by various fields to scholarship funds for international students. International students cannot receive national scholarships, so they are in a difficult spot regarding scholarship benefits.

Starting with 13.5 million won in tuition and dormitory expenses for 13 international students in 2020, Sahmyook Sarang Shop supported 40 million won in scholarships for 25 students last year and 74 million won in scholarships for 60 international students so far this year.

Dr. Eliazar Alumbro Peniton Jr., who received the Sahmyook Sarang Shop scholarship while studying at the Department of Convergence Science at Sahmyook University Graduate School, was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at Mountain View College in his native Philippines last August.

Another scholarship student, Dr. Enkhtaivan Tsolmonbayar of the Graduate School of Theology from Sahmyook University, became the first Mongolian to acquire a Doctorate in Theology (Ph.D.) from the Adventist church and is serving as a pastor in his country.

Recently, when a Mongolian student sent his hard-earned tuition for his father’s surgery, he was in a situation where his visa would be canceled, so they provided emergency tuition support.

Kwon, Young-soon Kwon, president of Sahmyook Sarang Shop, said, “Looking at the thank-you letters sent by scholarship students, even during the winter, we continue with the bazaar volunteer work.” “It is rewarding and grateful to be able to provide immediate help when they are in the most difficult time. I hope the international students will finish their studies at Sahmyook University well and return to their home countries to grow into great workers.”
