Sahmyook University has appointed two international students from China and India who have completed their studies at the university and are preparing for a new start as messengers of the gospel (SU-HERALD).

On February 24th, Sahmyook University held an appointment ceremony for ‘SU-HERALD,’ an international student missionary, at the President’s office of the Centenary Memorial Hall on campus. President Il-mok Kim, Dean Hae-jong Je, World Mission Center Director Seong-kyu Oh, GMC Pastor Jin-hyeop Kim, Chinese Church Pastor Jeong Seong-cheol, and Sahmyook Sarang Shop Chairman Kwon Young-Soon attended the event.

SU-HERALD is a system that appoints international students returning to their home countries after completing their studies at Sahmyook University as missionaries. The purpose is to continue the exemplary work as a foreign alumnus of Sahmyook University and to become a base for a continuous missionary network. Since 2021, ten international students from China, Japan, India, Vietnam, and Mongolia were appointed SU-HEARLDs and dispatched.

Two SU-HERALDs were appointed on this day: Ndang Haisokie (India, completed a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Theology) and Wang Mingming (China, graduate of Global Korean Studies).

While serving as a 1000 missionary in India, Heisoki entered the master’s degree at Sahmyook University Graduate School of Theology with higher aspirations for ministry and theology. While working in a challenging environment, he always did his best in his studies and maintained the highest grades every semester. He worked as an evangelist and leader at GMC Church, a branch church of Sahmyook University, and lived as a good and faithful servant of God’s work.

After completing his master’s course and awaiting to submit his thesis, he plans to return to his home country, India, and work at the local Cheonmyeong Missionary Training Center to nurture junior missionaries.

Wang Mingming studied in the Korean language course at the Institute of International Education at Sahmyook University before transferring to the Department of Global Korean Studies and graduated in February. While attending school, he participated at the Chinese language church on campus. He received Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized. After baptism, he continued his religious life and continued to grow spiritually. He also actively participated in developing the “Chinese Student Cultural Center” established by the Chinese Church at Saemun Church in Hwigyeong-dong, Seoul.

After entering the master’s course at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and studying Korean culture marketing, he pledged to actively work as a campus missionary leading Chinese students studying at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies to Saemun Church.

President Il-mok Kim said, “I sincerely congratulate the two students who have advanced to the next stage of life. Based on your study experience at Sahmyook University, I hope you will serve greatly as spiritual ambassadors and grow into the country’s leaders. May God greatly bless your future.”

Sahmyook Sarang Shop, a volunteer organization for professors’ wives that sponsored international students, delivered special scholarships to the two students appointed to SU-HERALD. Young-soon Kwon, president of Sahmyook Sarang Shop, encouraged them, saying, “I hope that you will become great God’s workers who spread the gospel around the world like Luther, Calvin, and Wesley, who brought about the religious reform in the Middle Ages.”

In unison, the foreign student missionaries pledged, “We will become missionaries who spread the love and grace we received from God and Sahmyook University.”
