[NEWS] 2023 Academic Year Commencement Ceremony

On the morning of February 16th, Sahmyook University hosted the commencement ceremony for the 2023 academic year at the Missionary 70th Anniversary Memorial Hall (Main Auditorium).

The ceremony witnessed the presence of President Kim Il-Mok, Vice President Kim Hyun-Hee, Alumni Association President Oh Deok-Shin, along with parents, well-wishers, and other attendees who came to congratulate the graduates.

A total of 1,235 graduates received their degrees, including 1,086 Bachelor’s degrees, 37 Doctorates, and 96 Master’s degrees from the general graduate school. Additionally, there were 6 Master’s degrees from the School of Theology, 9 from the Graduate School of Business, and 1 from the Graduate School of Clinical Nursing.

Outstanding academic achievers such as Park Jin-Ah (Chemical and Life Sciences), Yoon Ju-Young (Physical Therapy), and Yeo Seon-Ah (Counseling Psychology) received the Chairman’s Award, Alumni Association President’s Award, and Woori Bank CEO’s Award, respectively.

Special recognitions were given to students who excelled beyond academics. Ham Seung-Woo (Computer Science), a severe hearing-impaired student, who won a gold medal as a national representative in the International Paralympic Skills Olympics in computer programming, and Nam Soo-Jin (School of Theology), the 62nd Student Council President, were awarded for their contributions.

Moreover, 69 international students from various countries such as China, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cameroon, and 26 students with disabilities proudly donned their academic caps on this momentous occasion.

In his address titled ‘Become That One Person,’ President Kim Il-Mok emphasized that the ability to change the world starts from small but principled actions. He encouraged the graduates to embody these principles, becoming the kind of individuals who, through righteous actions, contribute positively to society. He concluded by expressing his hope that all graduates become ‘that one person,’ blessing their homeland, alma mater, and neighbors.
