“A Warm Welcome to Our Freshmen!“… 2021 Matriculation Ceremony Held Online 1,461 Undergraduates and 178 Graduates Newly Joined SU. President Il-mok Kim Declared “Full Support for Freshmen for Their Success”

 

On March 2, Sahmyook University welcomed its new students at the 2021 Matriculation Ceremony at the main auditorium.

For the prevention of the spread of COVID-19, the ceremony was joined by a minimum number of participants, including President Il-mok Kim, college deans, the freshmen representatives, the student body president, and the representatives of independent student bodies. The entire ceremony was live-streamed online.

 

This year, SU welcomed a total of 1,461 undergraduates (1,207 freshmen and 254 transfer students, including the College of Pharmacy), and 178 graduates to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Graduate School of Business, Graduate School of Clinical Nursing, Graduate School of Theology, and the Integrated PhD program.

Nursing major Sol-yi Kim and counseling psychology major Min-kyu Kim, who joined the school as the first and the second best in their respective classes, stood at the podium on behalf of the entire freshmen class and took a vow to do their best in their studies to grow to be the light and the salt in this society. They were then presented with a medal and the certificate of scholarship from the university.

Next, a wind trio from the Department of Music congratulated the new students with celebratory music, blessing their future. Dr. Hae-jong Je, Dean of Theology, Dr. Il-ok Kim, Dean of Nursing, and In-yeong Kim, Student Body President, also greeted the new joiners with welcome speeches.

President Il-mok Kim emphasized in his speech, “Sahmyook University provides holistic education, which pursues balanced development of intelligence, spirituality, and physical health, with an ultimate goal of cultivating talent to be the light and the salt of the world.” President Kim continued, “The school will spare no effort in supporting you in your success in studying and your future. We hope that you will all plan to have the best university life and pave a path for your bright future.”

Additionally, Sahmyook University held the “Online MVP Camp“ for freshmen for 3 days, from March 2 to March 4. The MVP Camp, which is Sahmyook University’s special, unique program, covers not only freshmen orientation but also character education. The program included 20-minute live-streaming of video contents on its exclusive website at 5 P.M. every day during the camp.
