SU College of Nursing Professor Pok-ja Oh, Elected as Full Member of the National Academy of Medicine of Korea, the Most Prestigious Scholarly Organization in the Field of Healthcare in the Country

 

Pok-ja Oh, professor at the Sahmyook University’s College of Nursing, has been elected as a new full member of the National Academy of Medicine of Korea (NAMOK).

NAMOK, the most prestigious scholarly organization in the field of healthcare in Korea, plays an important advisory role for healthcare policymakers with specialized research for the promotion of public health.

Full membership of NAMOK requires a member to have over 20 years of experience in their field of expertise and have a rigorous review on their research achievements, such as the number of papers published in SCI-registered journals and the publications of various academic books.

For the past 25 years, Professor Oh has established paramount research achievements in the fields of adult nursing and oncology nursing. In particular, she has conducted meta-analysis studies on cancer patients’ health promotion, life quality improvement, and symptom management intervention, publishing more than 100 articles as the first author, many of which have been included in the Social Sciences Citation Index(SSCI) journals.

In recognition of her research achievements, Oh has received a prize for Outstanding Thesis from the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, an Outstanding Nursing Scientist Award, and four Excellent Thesis Awards from the Korean Society of Nursing Science.

As a founding member of the Korean Oncology Nursing Society, Oh has served as academic director, vice president, and president. She also has contributed to nurturing oncology specialized nurses by bringing the oncology nurse system to Korea.
