Introduction

In Western medicine, the human body could be dissected by Descartes' mechanistic human view and ethical permission based on dualism, and surgical medicine developed greatly. The development of Western medicine has given us many benefits, but the negative results of ignoring the relationship between the human mind, health, and disease are clearly appearing in the present. Modern people experience a lot of stress in a competitive society, and instead of coping with it properly, they are immersed in escaping behaviors, such as smoking, drinking, gambling, the Internet, and video, feeling a temporary sense of liberation and threatening their lives. Therefore, this institute studies stress, disease, and unhealthy behavior (addictive behaviors, violence, etc.) using bio·psycho·socio·spiritual approaches for the health and well-being, and develops intervention methods in various ways. This institute was established with the expectation that it will contribute to the development of society as well as the academic areas and improve the quality of life of Koreans.
