Sahmyook University, in collaboration with Daejin University, Duksung Women’s University, and Seokyeong University, has successfully completed the 2024 Overseas Employment Training Program – University Consortium Course. Over the past several months, 100 students participated in intensive training, including overseas experience, and as of now, 56 have secured jobs with companies in the United States.
To mark the achievement, the four universities held a completion ceremony on December 20 at Hong Myung-ki Hall, Yohangwan, Sahmyook University.
Funded by the Korea Human Resources Development Service, the Overseas Employment Training Program is designed to help students gain the skills and experience needed to work for international companies. It offers a comprehensive package, including language training, job-specific skills development, career counseling, job placement assistance, and post-employment support for settling into life abroad. Sahmyook University has been a key player in this initiative, being selected as a participating institution for seven consecutive years since 2018. To date, it has helped 155 students secure jobs in the U.S..
In 2022, Sahmyook University expanded its efforts by forming a consortium with three other universities to create a stronger overseas employment pipeline in Seoul’s northeastern region. As the lead institution, Sahmyook University has worked closely with its partners to build a structured program and support system for students aiming for international careers.
This year’s program kicked off with language training in June and July, followed by intensive job-specific courses in August. The 100 selected students trained in the following specialized programs:
Sahmyook University: Global e-Business Specialist Course (20 students)
Sahmyook University: Global Design Specialist Course (20 students)
Daejin University: Global Business Specialist Course (20 students)
Duksung Women’s University: Smart Trade, Logistics & Accounting Specialist Course (20 students)
Seokyeong University: Global Business Data Analysis Specialist Course (20 students)
The program featured 600 hours of training, covering job-specific skills, business English, and essential knowledge about culture, safety, and workplace regulations. Beyond the classroom, the consortium actively leveraged alumni networks and employment agencies in the U.S. to identify and verify top job opportunities. A post-employment support system was also put in place to help students adjust to their new professional and cultural environments.
With job matching currently underway, 56 students have already landed positions with U.S. companies, and the goal is to finalize placements for all participants by the end of February.
At the completion ceremony, Sahmyook University President Jae Hae-jong shared his encouragement, saying, “As you embark on this journey, remember that you are not just representing your university, but also Korea on the global stage. Your achievements will inspire future students to follow in your footsteps. I wish you all great success in your careers ahead.”
