[NEWS] 'No-mask' graduation ceremony filled with laughter

On the morning of February 17th, Sahmyook University held the commencement ceremony for the 2022 academic year at the 70th Anniversary Memorial Hall (Auditorium) on campus. It was held as a face-to-face event for the first time in three years since COVID-19.

On this day, the graduation ceremony was attended by Sahmyook Academy Chairman Kang, Soon-gi, President Kim, Il-mok, Vice President Kim, Hyun-hee, Alumni Association President Lim, Jong-seong, parents, and graduating students.

A total of 1,193 graduates received degrees, including △1075 bachelor’s degrees △31 doctoral degrees from general graduate school, 61 Master’s degrees △14 Master’s degrees from the Graduate School of Theology △ 9 Master’s degrees from the Graduate School of Business Administration, and △3 Master’s degrees from the Graduate School of Clinical Nursing.

Senior Pastor Kim, Myeong-ho Kim of the Adventist Church, and Jeong,Yong-bok, CEO of Zion Metal, received honorary doctorates in theology and science. Students Kim, Bo-min (Department of Management Information), Kwon, Da-young (Department of Physical Education), and Cheon, Jae-hwan (Department of Chemistry and Life Science) achieved excellent academic performances. They were awarded the President’s Award, Alumni Association President’s Award, and Woori Bank President’s Award.

Thirty-six international students and 16 students with disabilities from various countries, such as the United States, China, India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Cameroon, and Mongolia, also wore graduation caps of honor.

President Kim Il-mok emphasized an “altruistic attitude” toward graduates entering society. He continues, “As the society is transforming into a high-tech-oriented one, the value of upright character in dealing with it is growing. I hope you do not think only of yourself when facing various challenges and adversity but live a life that does not give up with an altruistic attitude.”

“You all have become proud alumni of Sahmyook University. No matter where you are or what you do, please do not forget that you are the face and ambassador of your alma mater. I hope you will live as a true leader who brightly shines the world wherever you are. The university will work even harder to make you shine. I hope God’s infinite grace will always be with you in your,” he added.
