2024-04-25 23

Sahmyook University is breaking new ground in its commitment to internationalization by launching the Division of Global Culture & Arts Convergence, an exclusive department tailored for foreign exchange students. Under this exciting initiative, the university has also unveiled a new major in Performing Arts.

This groundbreaking major offers a comprehensive curriculum covering a wide array of performance disciplines, including acting, dancing, singing, and musical instrument proficiency. Additionally, students will delve into the intricacies of production, mastering skills in directing, scriptwriting, stage design, lighting, recording, and sound engineering — essential elements for putting on captivating performances. The program offers two distinct tracks: Performance Track and Design Track.

In the first year, students will immerse themselves in foundational studies while also delving into Korean language courses to facilitate their integration into campus life. Subsequently, in the second and third years, students will engage in specialized coursework, participating in hands-on projects and internships tailored to their chosen area of expertise, culminating in the development of their portfolios.

During their final year, students will embark on internships both domestically and abroad. They will have the unique opportunity to participate in internship programs at esteemed cultural institutions and performance venues, including the prestigious Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others, with which Sahmyook University has established partnerships.

The Division of Global Culture & Arts Convergence adopts an inclusive approach, welcoming foreign exchange students without imposing a fixed enrollment quota. Currently, Sahmyook University is actively recruiting students for the academic year 2024, with applications open until August 2nd.

Eligibility requirements mandate that both the applicant and their parents hold foreign citizenship. Proficiency in Korean language, equivalent to at least level 2 of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) or successful completion of Sahmyook University’s SU-TOPIK exam, is also required. Applicants will undergo a thorough evaluation process, including document assessment and interviews, with the first cohort of students expected to commence their studies in September.

Furthermore, the university offers attractive scholarship opportunities. Graduates of Sahmyook University’s Korean Language Institute, who have completed one year or more of Korean language studies, will benefit from a 30% reduction in tuition fees for the first semester. Additionally, scholarships ranging up to 100% will be awarded based on TOPIK scores and academic performance throughout the enrollment period.

President Je Haejong expressed his enthusiasm for the new initiative, emphasizing the department’s commitment to providing specialized education programs and comprehensive support services to facilitate the academic and personal growth of international students. He also underscored the university’s commitment to expanding its offerings within the Division of Global Culture & Arts Convergence, to attract top-tier international talent and further the university’s global reach.
