Sahmyook University’s Department of Architecture Construction Technology and Management Research Institute and the Artificial Intelligence Convergence Department’s Human and Vision Lab joint research team donated 10 million in prize money from winning the artificial intelligence competition to the university development fund.

Last year, the research team received the grand prize from the Minister of Science and ICT and a prize of 10 million won at the “DNA+ Drone Challenge 2022” contest co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute.

This competition uses 5G communication to transmit 4K-class high-resolution images taken by drones to the data center in real-time and analyzes artificial intelligence while competing for mission performance.

The research team participated in the “Real-time AI Service Challenge” category. The ability to perform the mission of detecting defects in roads or bridges (cracks, potholes) with drones and calculating the cultivation area for each crop in real-time in multi-species farmland (farm drones) were tested.

The research team utilized the DNA + drone standard data most effectively to achieve the highest real-time prediction accuracy in both missions. The research team said, “We are deeply grateful to the university authorities and the Sahmyook University SW-centered university project group for their support and interest in artificial intelligence education and research. We hope this donation will be reinvested in fostering talented individuals with expertise in artificial intelligence.”
