Retired professors at Sahmyook University are practicing their love for their students by making donations to foster younger students.

Former professor of theology Byeong-ho Jang (retired in February 2014) and his wife, Young-hwan Yoo, recently donated 20 million won to Sahmyook University’s scholarship fund.

The couple donated 58 million won to the university’s development fund and various scholarship funds on twelve occasions from 1997 to recently when Professor Jang was in office. Professor Jang said, “It’s just paying off my debts little by little.”

Yeong-hwan Yoo, the president of Dorgahoe, a volunteer group of the Sahmyook University Church, led the group and continued to volunteer even after retirement. Dorgahoe holds a bazaar every Wednesday in front of the campus gymnasium and donates the proceeds to scholarships. It has donated 656 million won in scholarship funds to the university. To date, more than 1,000 students have benefited.

Meanwhile, Professor Young-an Kim of the Department of Art and Design donated 10 million won to the department’s development fund to mark his retirement at the end of February. Sahmyook University professors retire and donate to department development funds for their students, and this tradition of donation has continued.

He continued his love for students by donating a cumulative amount of 33 million won to △Disciple Love Scholarship △COVID-19 Overcoming Scholarship △Department Development Fund △Johyeong Hall (currently the Art & Design Hall) construction fund during his tenure.

Professor Kim said, “I hope these small sharings will become the power to turn the gears of ordinary daily life for someone.”
