Leave of absence

  • Type of leaving of absence
    • General leave of absence: family reasons, medical, unavoidable circumstances, etc.
    • Army enlistment leave of absence: Receive notice of military duty
  • Process regarding leaving of absence
    • If a student wants a leave of absence, he/she must follow the proper process. The students must receive the approval of the academic dean. Students must attach hospital certification in the case of medical leave of absence.
    • Documents regarding leave of absence should be submitted shortly after the final examination period until 3 weeks after the starting of a new semester.
  • General leave of absence
    • General leave of absence will be taken into consideration per year (or each semester). However, during the two years of school, students cannot take more than 3 leave of absence.
    • Only registered students of Sahmyook University can take leave of absence. However, if students request a leave of absence during the registration period, they do not need to be registered to take a leave of absence.
  • Leave of Absence due to Military Duty
    • If a student submit a copy of conscription notice, then the , leave of absence is always possible.
    • If the student join the army in general absence or suspension from school, they must take steps for military absence.
    • The period of military service absence must be recognized until being discharged.
    • If students are discharged from the military, they must report to the academic dean within 5 days.
  • limitation regarding leaving of absence
    • Newcomer (transfer students, readmission, changing their major) are not granted leave of absence in the semester. Army enlistment leave of absence and long-term diseases for over 3 weeks are exceptions to this rule.

Return to University

  • Returning Students Admission Process
    • Students on Leave of absence must return within registration period and register within the normal registration period of the particular semester.
    • Students who are returning from the military leave of absence , then they must return within 3 weeks after semester begins, and the absence must not exceed two weeks.
    • military absence students must return to the university within 1 year after the discharge. If they don't have special permission for extending the leave of absence, then the students must get expelled from the university.
    • If students don't return to the university within the required registration period, they must be removed.
    • If leaving absence students want to register seasonal session retake/repeat a class, then the total of 6 credit are allowed.
