Sahmyook University\u2019s SW Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Center held a drug prevention education session on January 9 for over 50 international students enrolled in the university\u2019s Korean Language Institute. The program, titled \u2018Essential Drug Laws You Should Know\u2019, aimed to equip students with critical knowledge about drug regulations and prevention.<\/p>\n

As drug-related issues continue to escalate worldwide, international students may face challenges due to differences in drug laws between countries. This session was organized to ensure their safety and well-being, especially in light of the increasing number of drug-related offenses among university students.<\/p>\n

The lecture was conducted by Lee Ye-heon, a researcher at the SW Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Center and a certified instructor from the Korea Anti-Drug Campaign Headquarters. The session covered key topics such as:<\/p>\n

Types and classifications of drugs
\nThe concept of addiction and its effects
\nMisuse and abuse of medical narcotics
\nSouth Korea\u2019s drug laws vs. international regulations
\nHow to prevent drug-related crimes<\/p>\n

Students actively participated by sharing drug-related cases and policies from their home countries.
\nAindra Kin, a student from Myanmar, shared her thoughts on the session, saying, \u201cI learned so much about drugs and their risks. In today\u2019s world, where lack of awareness can put you in danger, this was a crucial and necessary session for international students.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kim Nami, director of the SW Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Center, explained the motivation behind the program:<\/p>\n

“With drug-related crimes rising among university students and even cases of drug distribution within international student communities, we felt this education was essential. We will continue to provide various drug prevention programs to ensure a safe and healthy university environment for all students.”<\/p>\n

The SW Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Center is a research and treatment institution that utilizes software technology to assist individuals and families struggling with four major addictions: alcohol, smoking, drugs, and the internet.
