2022-08-05 11,309

SU Artificial Intelligence Convergence Department has been selected for the Multi-departmental Project for the Cultivation of Professionals, supported by the Ministry of Education. Chosen specifically for the fields of logic chips and intellectual properties, the university is to receive the support of 1.22 billion won by 2025.

The Multi-departmental Project for Cultivation of Professionals is a brand-new project launched by the new government administration this year. This project is co-funded by 7 government departments, including, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Korean Intellectual Property Office. The selected universities are to develop and operate high-tech industry-related courses required by the industry, as well as to offer and support practical courses such as on-the-job training and internships.

Sahmyook University, in particular, will focus on the logic chips sector and establish an Engineer Training Program on Semiconductor Materials, Parts, and Equipment, in which the Artificial Intelligence Convergence Department and the Chemistry Life Science Department are to participate, to foster 120 logic chips professionals for the next three years.

The program will be operated mainly by a group of professors who are former researchers of Samsung Electronics’ Semiconductor Institute and will consist of various courses, covering the eight steps of the manufacturing process, properties of the semiconductor devices, and measurements. It will also cooperate with semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment consortium enterprises to introduce practice-oriented coursework and corporate linkage courses such as industry-academia corporation projects, internships, and on-the-job training.

For the other area of focus of the university in this project, intellectual properties (IP), SU will endeavor to procure futuristic and novel technologies by nurturing engineering students into convergence professionals who are equipped with both technical expertise and IP creation capabilities.

The university will go beyond merely offering the basic theories of patents and IP to provide specialized courses tailored to the key technologies for Industry 4.0, such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data. Moreover, the university will be supported with teaching capacity enhancement programs and industry-academia cooperative education to drive its IP education and training courses while at the same time promoting and raising awareness of IP convergence education through the IP convergence education performance management system, which is integrated with its on-campus learning management system.
