Sahmyook University’s College of Pharmacy (Dean Kang Jin-yang) has signed an MOU with InfoBoss Inc., an AI genome analysis company, for the development of new medicines and functional foods. The signing ceremony was held at Science Hall 3 on campus on April 9.

InfoBoss’ business model is based on AI to conduct genome analysis on Korean native plants, predict the biosynthetic path of the plants’ secondary metabolites, and finally to derive useful substances for commercialization. In particular, the company is planning on a joint study with SU’s Eco-pathology Lab (under Professor Kang Tae-jin), which possesses several disease models including skin diseases and diseases related to the central nervous system.

The two parties of the agreement are now to conduct a joint study on the validation of genome analysis data and the related candidate substances based on the AI-based platform Meta-series.

By joining hands with InfoBoss, the AI-based genome analysis company, SU’s College of Pharmacy can now expand its scope of research from current cell-and-animal-based disease models to AI-based in-silico discovery.

“Through this joint study, we expect to be able to drastically reduce the time and cost it takes for various effective substances to be developed into new drugs,” Pharmacy College Dean Kang Jin-yang said.

“Our AI-based genome analysis technology coupled with the research know-how of SU’s College of Pharmacy professors will further advance the development and commercial application of various new drugs,” InfoBoss Co-founder Jason Shon added.
