[NEWS] Joint International seminar with Kasetsart University, Thailand

Sahmyook University Bioscience Research Institute and Plant Genetic Breeding Research Institute held an international joint seminar on Cytogenomics with Thailand’s Kasetsart University in the small meeting room of the Centennial Memorial Hall on October 11th.

About 20 people attended the seminar, including Professor Kim Hyun-hee, vice president of Sahmyook University and the head of the Bioscience Research Institute, Hwang Yun-jeong, director of the Plant Genetic Breeding Institute, Ko Won-bae, dean of the College of Science and Technology, Professor Kornsorn Srikulnath of Kasetsart University, as well as researchers and students from both universities.

At the seminar, Dr. Laisa Aone Kabahug and Ph.D. student Hong Thi Nguyen of Sahmyook University presented △ Chemical Mutation Breeding in Ornamental Succulents △ Molecular Cytogenomic Analysis in Major Plants Using Oligo-FISH.

Kasset Satsat’s Dr. Warapong Singchat and Fish Watanadilokchakun presented the theme of the△ Genetic Diversity and Habitat Suitability of Wild Chicken Populations in Thailand△ Identification of Microsatellite Distribution on the Siamese Fighting Fish Genome to Suppoprt Genetic Diversity and Conservation of Eastern Wild Betta.

Before the seminar, the visiting group from Kasetsart University met with President Kim Il-mok of Sahmyook University and discussed ways of exchange and cooperation. The two universities are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) focusing on research and student exchanges in the future.

Kasetsart University is a research-oriented national university located in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. It is the third university established in Thailand and the largest university in Thailand. As of 2020, there are 29 departments, including the Faculty of Business Administration, Architecture, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, and Education, and two colleges and four research institutes. It offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.
