Department of Animal Biotechnology & Resource

Who we are

The Department of Animal Life Resources is carrying out advanced biotechnology-based education to give stimulus to Korea’s promising bio industry—a growth engine of the biotechnology era—and to enhance national competitiveness. It is based on the production of animal food and is used as a basis for the production of food resources, including genetic improvement of animals and nutrition, feed and disease fields for animal productivity, animal foods, meat processing fields, genetics, biology, physiology, and biochemistry.

The program focuses on the following areas of study: a) Food resource production based on animal genetic modification, b) Nutrition, feeds and diseases to increase animal productivity, c) Oil and meat processing of animal foods, and d) Animal behavior and ecology for comprehensive understanding of the rapidly changing ecosystem. Through these studies, we aim to cultivate excellent scientists who will play a pivotal role in all aspects of the animal industry by integrating the analytical process of scientific inquiry with holistic character education.

Students will also take courses on researching and treating intractable human disease (infertility, stem cell, and cancer cell research) through the help of animal testing. The goals is to produce qualified animal life resources specialists who are well versed in developing new drugs based on animal experiments on economical animals, disease resistant animal, disease model animal (transgenic animal), etc. and testing those new drugs for human consumption (CRO).

Educational Mission

The Department of Animal Life Resources offers high-quality academic programs based on cutting-edge science and technology in line with rapidly changing times and social trends. Faculty are invested in giving students sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in their academic pursuits. The purpose of this program is to train students in theory, practice, and in building character.
