From March 14 to May 6, Sahmyook University will hold a school-wide prayer campaign under the theme of “40 Days: Walking with Jesus.” The campaign invites all Sahmyook community members to form groups of three, each consisting of one pastor, one professor, and one staff member, to gather at the Sahmyook University Church at noon every day to pray for 15 minutes for the daily prayer requests and the university’s departments and offices. After the prayer meeting, spiritual greetings and prayer batons are delivered to the assigned prayer members the next day.

At the same time, all other SU professors and staff are also reading Dennis E. Smith’s religious book “40 Days: Prayers and Devotions to Prepare for the Second Coming” in their respective offices, and praying together. The daily list of prayer requests is delivered via SU-Talk, the university’s official mobile messenger application.

The 40-day campaign of daily prayer runs until the day before the ‘Spring Love Sharing Week,’ held May 9 – 13, which aims to reap the first fruits of soul salvation of the spring semester. As it is well known, the number 40 in the Bible has a special meaning. For Moses and Elijah, the number 40 was significant, as it reflected their time of refinement. Also, before beginning His service on this earth, Jesus spent 40 days out in the wilderness solely to pray to His Heavenly Father.

Head Chaplain Je Hae-jong said, “I sincerely ask everyone to pray for the daily prayer requests and the successful student mission, fundraising for the development of our university, and an outstanding university evaluation.” He added, “I pray that we will be able to experience the same miracles of the early church when they prayed together.”
