In order to cultivate Korean Wave experts, starting this semester Sahmyook University newly established a major related to Korean Wave content.

Hallyu content-linked majors are sponsored by the Ministry of Education’s University Innovation Support Project. It links three departments: Department of Global Korean Studies, Department of Art & Design, and Department of Food and Nutrition.

This multi-discipline program provides a curriculum that creates and distributes creative contents to students who want to become Korean Wave experts in various fields such as K-Culture, K-Art, and K-Food. Students will learn not only the current direction of Hallyu around the world, but also how Hallyu contents are used in various industries.

The program expects to produce experts in various fields such as △Korean Wave cultural contents business △Korean Wave-based service industry △Korean Wave-based consumer goods distribution/marketing/promotion △Culture/Performance/Art △International exchange △Education △Research/information gathering.

“As the sustainability of the Korean Wave is more and more viable and investment from the public and private sectors are increasing, the demand for professional manpower is on the rise,” said Professor Young-chul Um (Department of Global Korean Studies). “We will cultivate experts in Hallyu contents by providing a systematic curriculum from theory to practice,” commented the professor.

Although there are no related majors in the recruitment unit, it is a system for obtaining multiple degrees by linking two or more disciplines. Including Hallyu contents, Sahmyook University operates a total of 8 multi-discipline programs including health exercise studies, performing arts contents studies, media contents studies, food service industry management studies, exercise rehabilitation studies, garden design studies, and human ICT studies. Applicants are required to have completed 2 semesters (30 credits or more) with an average GPA of 2.5 or higher. Transfer students can apply after completing the first semester.
